How Multigenerational Living is Redefining Home Design and Inspiring Innovative Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the makeup of families and households in the United States shifts and evolves, multigenerational living arrangements are becoming increasingly common. According to the <\/span>Pew Research Center<\/span><\/a>, a quarter of all adults ages 25 to 34 now live in a multigenerational living situation (which it defines as a household with two or more adult generations).<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a number that\u2019s been creeping upward since the early \u201870s but has swung up precipitously in the last 15 years. The US Census measures multigenerational living as three or more generations living under one roof. Despite the shift in definition, the trend holds steady and from 2010 to 2020, there was a nearly <\/span>18 percent increase in the number of multigenerational households<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The research arm of the apartment listing and resident services company RentCafe found that <\/span>68 percent over the age of 18 still live with a parent or parents<\/span><\/a>. As for millennials, 20 percent are back with mom and\/or dad (or just never left).<\/span><\/p>\n

Atlanta-based influencer <\/span>Lexi Poer<\/span><\/a> exemplifies this trend. Recently, she and her husband undertook a significant renovation of their home to accommodate her mother. The project added not one but two kitchens \u2014 one for the family and a separate one for her mother\u2019s private suite \u2014 along with three custom-designed luxury closets.<\/span><\/p>\n
